Biography

Carl Byker, founder of Red Hill Productions, has written, directed and produced multiple films for the investigative reporting series "Frontline." Carl has also made multiple films for "American Experience" and numerous limited series, all of which were broadcast in prime time on national television.  Carl's films have won the Primetime Emmy for best non-fiction series of the year, the Peabody award, two Columbia School of Journalism Du Pont awards, two Independent Documentary Association best limited series of the year awards, the "Kodak Vision Award” from the Producers’ Guild of America, and the Investigative Reporters and Editors “IRE” award for best multi-platform project for a collaboration with Frontline, NPR and Pro-Publica.  Carl’s scripts for his films have been nominated six times by the Writers’ Guild of America for best non-fiction television script of the year and he has won the award twice.  Before moving to Los Angeles and founding Red Hill, Carl won the American Cinema Editors award for best student editor in the nation, while attending film school at Montana State University in Bozeman.
